Supercomputers allow cutting edge research and design activities to be performed in weeks or months, rather than years as with conventional computers.

New York State government has access to supercomputing resources housed at the Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). This innovative solution was created by a partnership of CIO/OFT; New York State Foundation for Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR); and RPI.

CCNI is an important resource to allow government to be innovative in solving societal problems and perform research that would be impossible without the computing power at CCNI. The service is free to State Agencies. Usage may be scheduled through CIO/OFT.
