On August 12, 2009, Dr. Melodie Mayberry-Stewart, New York State CIO and Director of the Office for Technology and Paul Cosgrave, Commissioner of the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) attended the first ever Brave Kids Day at the Races Charity Event in Saratoga, New York. Brave Kids is a national nonprofit organization that serves children with chronic or life-threatening illnesses and disabilities.

On July 14, 2009, the New York State Chief Information Officer and Director of the Office for Technology, in partnership with Governor David A. Paterson’s Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Cabinet Office, the New York State Public Service Commission, and the New York State Foundation for Science, Technology, and Innovation hosted an information session regarding the first Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) broadband grants. On July 1, 2009, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) announced the NOFA for broadband Stimulus funding under the ARRA.

The first New York State Government Capitol Camp was held, co-hosted by the NYS Senate and the NYS CIO/OFT. This event brought together a diverse group of over 100 people from government, business, non-profits, and citizens to discuss using new web 2.0 communication technologies to improve government transparency and participation of citizens in government.

The event is designed to connect minority- and women-owned technology solution providers with key technology companies serving New York State.
