NEW YORK STATE CIO SELECTED AS A FINALIST FOR THE 6TH ANNUAL STEVIE AWARDS FOR WOMEN IN BUSINESS

Dr. Mayberry-Stewart Recognized for Career Accomplishments

Albany, NY (October 30, 2009) – New York State Chief Information Officer and Director of the Office for Technology, Dr. Melodie Mayberry-Stewart was named a finalist in the Lifetime Achievement Award category in the 6th Annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business worldwide.

The Stevie Awards for Women in Business honors women executives, entrepreneurs, and the organizations they manage, many of which are global companies. As a finalist in the lifetime achievement award, Dr. Mayberry-Stewart was recognized for her career accomplishments in information technology spanning 30 years.

“It is truly rewarding to be recognized as a finalist among such an outstanding group of women business leaders and the amazing organizations they represent,” said Dr. Mayberry-Stewart. “Any success I have accomplished throughout my career would not have been possible without the positive influences of my colleagues, mentors and other women trailblazers who opened doors for many of us to walk through. My hope is to inspire other young ladies to be dedicated to their education, their career preparation and their invaluable mentor relationships, one of the most important investments they will ever make.”

“Being named a finalist in The Stevie Awards for Women in Business is an important achievement,” said Michael Gallagher, President of the Stevie Awards. “It means that independent business executives have agreed that the nominee is worthy of recognition. We congratulate all of the finalists on their achievement and wish them well in the competition.”

More than 1,100 entries were submitted this year for consideration in 54 categories, including Best Executive, Best Entrepreneur, and Best Community Involvement Program. Finalists were chosen by business professionals worldwide during preliminary judging. Winners will be announced on November 13, 2009 by the Stevie’s Board of distinguished judges and advisors.
