More about Enterprise NYSeMail Migration
The Office of Taxpayer Accountability’s Council on Shared Services is charged with identifying opportunities to share, combine, and consolidate State services to produce greater efficiencies and cut costs for New York taxpayers. One of the areas that they focused on was consolidation and centralization of the enterprise IT structure. On January 12, 2010, Governor David A. Paterson included the consolidation of statewide email in his announcement of consolidations and mergers.
State agencies will gain several benefits by sharing the centralized NYSeMail system. Shared calendars and global directories among other features fosters for greater communication and collaboration. Another major benefit of consolidating into the NYSeMail is to save on hardware and power consumption. Also, the costs of ongoing maintenance and support will drop through economies of scale. NYSeMail will provide efficient spam-blocking and overall increased security.
CIO/OFT will work closely with each state agency to manage an aggressive 18 month migration schedule and ensure a smooth transition. The process will begin with an informational Kick-Off Meeting for state agency CIOs, followed by individual meetings with agencies to assess email requirements and unique needs.
